About 120 deprived communities in the Northern Sector of the country have received about 17,500 bags of cement from the GHACEM Cement Foundation (GCF) to boost infrastructural development.
The donation, which took place last Friday in Tamale, formed part of the last two distributions by the foundation, this year.
The Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions, which constitute the Northern Sector of the country, benefited from the free cement under the GHACEM cement foundation.
The Southern Sector, which comprises the Western, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta regions, was the first to receive the cement at a ceremony held in July, this year at Cape Coast.
Delivering the keynote address at the ceremony, the Managing Director of GHACEM, Morten Gade said the objective of GHACEM Cement Foundation is to support self-help initiative to speed up the development of the country.
Mr. Gade disclosed that since the inception of the GCF in 2002, the foundation had donated about 350,000 bags of cement valued at GHC6 million for the construction of social facilities.
It clearly shows that GHACEM is not only an important business enterprise but also pays attention to its Corporate Social Responsibility, he indicated.
GHACEM, he confirmed, would maintain its market leadership position by producing and delivering innovative high-quality, cost effective and environmentally responsible cement products to the Ghanaian market.
Present at the event were the board members of the foundation including the Chairman, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, Secretary, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, who is also the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of GHACEM and Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo (member).
Others were Dr. Akwasi Twumasi, Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service and representatives of beneficiaries of the cement awards.
On his part, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI urged beneficiaries to use the cement for the intended purposes.
He noted that “many more requests will be honoured to enable us achieve our objective as a company that prides itself as ‘the nation builder.”
He called on educational and medical institutions in the country to apply for cement to boost infrastructural development.
