Ghana Pick 10 Medals…In Africa University Games

namibia_gamesGhana produced a spirited performance to earn a respectable 5th position in the just-ended 6th Federation of African University Sports championship at the University of Namibia.

Eighteen Universities from across the continent participated in the competition aimed at fostering unity among tertiary institutions which started from December 12 to 22.

Ghana, with a contingent of  21 (14 athletes) and seven officials participated in only athletics and  table tennis but  they finished the well patronized competition picking two gold, five silver and three bronze medals.

Sprinter Emmanuel Appiah Kubi grabbed gold in the 100m dash while Malik Ibrahim and Michael Owusu Preprah won silver and bronze respectively.

Appia Kubi finished second to pick bronze in the 200m race with Malik picking bronze. Robert Dumfour won silver in the 400m race while the 4×100 relay team comprising Appiah Kubi, Malik, Seidu Chiba and Michael Owusu Preprah picked gold after a hotly contested race.

Akuka Williams placed second in the 15000m race. He again picked silver in the 5000 event, while Esther Adwubi picked the ladies 5000 silver.

The table tennis team comprising Raymond Donkor, Reginals Addo Ankamah, Cynthia Kwabi, Gloria Asafo Adjei won three medals.
