Positive Mindset Calls For Peaceful Elections

Evangelist Albert Forson

As part of efforts to ensure free and fair elections, Positive Mindset International, a Non-Governmental Organizational (NGO) has appealed to the government and the general public to maintain peace before, during and after the December 7 general elections.

According to the Executive Director of the Positive Mindset International, Evangelist Albert Forson, peace cannot be bought or borrowed.

He said the Electoral Commission (EC) and the security agencies cannot ensure peace alone, adding that “every single Ghanaian in his or her own small way must ensure that the 2012 elections does not turn bloody to erode all the gains we have chalked over the years because the effects of conflicts are profound, devastating and far-reaching.”

He said these during the second graduation of students and open day of the Abeka 2 Junior High School at new Fadama clusters of school in Accra.

He said some elections in Africa had been characterized by stuffing of ballot boxes, multiple voting, snatching of ballot boxes, intimidation of voters and rejection of the electoral results, among others.

He said every Ghanaian must know that peace is priceless and therefore must be protected at all cost and criticized people who preach violence.

He appealed to the government and other benevolent groups to resource the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to embark on a year-long campaign to educate citizenry especially the youth on cultural and moral values that will make them responsible, self-reliant and patriotic.

He urged the government, political parties, the media and other stakeholders to conduct themselves in a very decorous and responsible manner so as not to disturb the peace and future of the nation.

The chief of Fadama, Rriedwan Abass called on the citizens to remain tolerant, as the December elections draw nearer.

He said lack of tolerance caused the civil war in the Republic of Rwanda in 1994 and anarchy in Kenyan in 2007.

Rriedwan Abass urged parents and guardians to instill discipline in their wards, who are the future leaders of our great nation Ghana.
