ALHAJI MORO, a popular car dealer in Kumasi, is in the news for wrong reasons as he has been accused of openly issuing a threat at a police station.
Alhaji Moro who is very powerful in the Garden City, allegedly threatened to demolish a house at the plush Ahodwo, a well developed neighbourhood in Kumasi.
He was said to have issued the threat right in the presence of some police officers at the Asokwa Police Station last Friday, the police has confirmed to a section of the press.
The house in contention is situated on a four-acre industrial land which is owned by Madam Freda Darko, MD of Freko FD Company Limited, managers of the Kejetia Bus Terminal.
Briefing a section of the media, the Asokwa Police Crime Officer, ACP Simon Denteh, said the husband of Madam Darko made a report at the station last Thursday.
According to him, Madam Darko’s husband in his report said his wife who had travelled has a big land on which a house is situated at Ahodwo, a serene area in Kumasi.
He said Alhaji Moro from nowhere stormed the place, arguing the property belonged to him. Therefore, Madam Darko should vacate the place or he would demolish the house if she failed.
To avert any problems, Madam Darko’s husband decided to visit the police station and lodge a complaint with the law enforcement agents to stop Alhaji Moro from carrying out his threat.
ACP Denteh said his outfit called Alhaji Moro to the station on Friday and when he arrived, he produced photocopies of a document he claimed to cover the land.
Alhaji Moro said he made part payment for the purchase of the property some years ago through one George, who facilitated the smooth purchase of the expensive property.
Alhaji Moro narrated that after he had made the initial payment, the land owner promised to submit other papers covering the land so that he could pay the remaining amount.
He said, since that time he had not heard or been able to locate the said land owner again, only to hear that Madam Freda Darko was claiming ownership of the facility, which he is not prepared to let go.
ACP Denteh said he told Alhaji Moro to write down his statement but he refused to do so insisting that he wanted to meet Madam Darko in the presence of the police so that they could argue to determine who the right owner of the property was.
Alhaji Moro, according to the police capo, then threatened to demolish the house on the industrial land if Madam Darko remained adamant and continued to claim ownership of the it.
ACP Denteh said the police had called Madam Darko to report at the station so that they could put down her statement after which they would know what action to take in connection with the case.
The said property which is lying on the main Ahodwo-Daaban road was owned by a white man. The white man sold the property to Madam Darko, who claimed to have the original papers covering the property.
In 2011, another famous footwear dealer in Kumasi called Old Foes, stormed the facility to claim ownership of it, but he later vanished into thin air when the matter was reported to the police.
