The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has said that it is closely monitoring City and Country Waste Limited’s (CCWL) claim to sell seven properties belonging to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The intended sale of the properties follows notices of auction placed on them by an Accra High Court when a Supreme Court ruled in favour of CCWL.Â
The waste management company’s contract was allegedly terminated by the Kufuor administration. Hence the company is demanding over six million dollars in judgment debt owed it by the AMA.Â
Deputy Local Government Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah in an interview with Citi News said the matter is out of the Ministry’s hands but it will go with the advice from the Attorney General.
According to him, “all these are legal issues, there are legal ramifications and so this has moved beyond the remits of the Ministry of Local Government but we are very much concerned.”
