THE KRONTIHENE of Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bofotia Boa-Amposem has called on politicians to stay away from matters concerning education and leave it for the professionals to handle so that the future of Ghanaian children will not become endangered.
He said if politicians do not stop meddling in matters related to education, the nation will reach its desired level of development.
He therefore called on government and those aspiring to lead the country to stay away from matters concerning the educational system so that it will remain stable.
Nana Boa-Amponsem was speaking at the 2nd speech and prize giving day of Solomon Bennett Memorial School under the theme: “Promoting Excellence in Education.”
The guest speaker for the event who is also the headmistress of Sunyani Senior High School, Georgina Boakye, said research had shown that many students had failed to progress in their education due to poor performance.
She said pursuing excellence in education means the mobilization of relevant resources, human and material, to give or impart to pupils and students exceptional training and instruction which will sustain their future and education.
Mrs. Boakye noted that “pursuing excellence in education requires that all stakeholders of education – government, parents, teachers, the community, the church and NGOs have a role to play in order to achieve the excellence that we are all yearning for.”
The school’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Grace Bennett expressed worry over the way some parents refused to pay their wards school fees and allowed their children to keep coming to school while they were sick. She called on parents to alert the school authorities to any problems regarding their wards so that they can be solved accordingly.
According to her, she was going to do her best to make sure the school produced the best students adding that there were plans to expand it to include a senior high school.
The CEO also used the opportunity to commission a modern science laboratory.
