MORE HOUSES have been torched at Berib, a Konkomba farming community in the Gushiegu district of the Northern region after residents of Yiyenba, another Konkomba settlement launched retaliatory attacks on them Tuesday afternoon.
Though no causalities have been recorded so far according AlhajiÂ Alhassan Fuseini District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, he disclosed to DAILY GUIDE that reinforcements could salvage the rising tension among the two communities.
The immediate cause of the latest reprisal attacks was over a parcel of land but sources have cited chieftaincy succession as the remote cause of recurring clashes between the two communities.
Early Tuesday seven persons including a chief from one of the factions believed to be a ring leader were arrested by the Yendi Divisional Police Command.
More than 15 homes were confirmed either torched or completely destroyed as both factions engaged in a gun battle to settle scores over land occupancy and chieftaincy titles.
An eyewitness, Adam Shaibu according to a Citi Fm report, claimed some locally manufactured weapons were retrieved from the combatants.
The Northern Regional Police Command confirmed the latest violence to DAILY GUIDE and hinted that reinforcements would be deployed to the area to maintain some calm and appealed to residents to behave themselves.
