One person was killed while 17persons were injured on Friday in a multiple auto crash at Amanfrom near Kasoa.
The accident, which occurred around 10:50am, involved a tipper truck with registration number GT 5866-11 belonging to Consar Limited, a 207 bus with number GR 5182W and a sprinter bus with number GW 1941-V, all heading towards Kasoa from Accra.
The fourth vehicle is yet to be identified.
A 45-year-old woman onboard the 207 bus, according to police reports, died shortly on arrival at the Kasoa Government Hospital.
The body of the woman, who is yet to be identified, has been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital morgue while police look for the family.
The other 17 onboard the sprinter bus and the badly damaged 207 bus are currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Government Hospital, Akawe Hospital and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
An eyewitness said all vehicles were heading towards Kasoa in a convoy from Accra.
At a point, the tipper truck driver, who was over-speeding, attempted to overtake the 207 bus.
In the process, the truck rammed into the 207 vehicle, which also hit the Sprinter bus in front of it due to the impact.
Driver of the tipper truck, who was not injured, was whisked away by the Kasoa Police who got to the scene earlier on.
The eyewitness said some Good Samaritans immediately conveyed some of the injured to the nearest hospital before the Weija Police was informed.
Meanwhile, one of the victims on the 207 bus, Comfort Asaboa, who also sustained injuries, told the paper at the police station that the tipper truck attempted to overtake their bus when the accident happened.
ASP Isaac Ayitey Quaye, the Deputy Weija District Police Commander, told the paper that the dead person was yet to be identified.
He said the real cause of the accident was yet to be established since the number of vehicles involved was four.
The fourth vehicle, according to information, moved on to drop its passengers since none of those on board the bus got injured.
“We are yet to pick the driver of the tipper truck still in custody of the Kasoa police, to Weija to assist in our investigations,” he noted.
