Former chairman of league champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kennedy ‘Cappuccino’ Agyepong, has done it again; this time making a double donation of GH¢3,000 and GH¢5000 to Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio and towards the President’s Cup respectively.
It would be recalled that he, a few months ago, made a very generous donation of $20,000 to boxing Professor Azumah Nelson’s foundation, and followed it up with a sponsorship package for the Porcupine Warriors, culminating in their league triumph.
Last week, the businessman called into a sports programme hosted by Ernest Koranteng on Joy FM, and pledged GH¢3,000 towards the treatment of former Hearts of Oak and Black Stars coach Jones Attuquayefio, who has been ill for some time now.
He made good his pledge yesterday, giving out the money in cash to support the treatment of Attuquayefio.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE SPORTS at his plush Airport West residence yesterday, Kennedy Agyepong disclosed that he was moved by the contributions made by the former coach to Ghana sports.
“This is a man who has given so much to Ghana sports, both as a footballer and a coach. A country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for. I thought that we should all give our widow’s mite.
“When I heard him on radio, I was distraught; I nearly wept. Why can’t we all come together to support this true son of Ghana?” quizzed an emotional Agyepong.
He stressed, “Even though I am a former chairman of Kotoko and Jones, a former Hearts coach, the situation goes beyond football rivalry. His situation must concern all of us, irrespective of which local team we belong to.”
The businessman appealed to all football fans to throng the Accra Sports Stadium, where a charity match would be played today to raise funds to support Sir Jones Attuquayefio.
Other personalities that donated to the former coach included Ernest Thompson and Randy Abbey.
In a related development, the Kenpong Group of Companies, of which Kennedy Agyepong is the CEO, has presented a cheque for GH¢5,000 towards this year’s President’s Cup.
As co-sponsors, the Kenpong Group, which is into a franchise with Vodafone Ghana, has the responsibility to ensure a successful President’s Cup, hence the presentation.
