The Adome Bridge in the Eastern region will be closed for a year to enable extensive rehabilitation works.
The rehabilitation which is expected to begin early next year, is the first major one since the bridge was built in 1956.
According to the Ghana Highways Authority, it has secured a loan facility from the Austrian government to undertake the project.
he Director of Bridges at the Ghana Highway Authority, Owusu Sekyere Antwi, stated that the closure was necessitated because major parts of the bridge have to be totally replaced.
Mr. Antwi, however, assured that “alternative routes are currently under construction and will be completed before the bridge is closed.”
