‘64 Battalion’ Pledge Support … For Attuquayefio Charity Match

Members of the famous ‘64 Battalion’ of Accra Hearts of Oak have declared total support for the Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio Charity Game on Friday June 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The ‘64 Battalion’ of Accra of Oak, it would be recalled, conquered the continent and the local scene in 2000 and 2001 by winning the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League and Super Cup as well as several domestic trophies.

Goalkeeper Sammy  Adjei, Eben Dida Armah, Jacob Nettey, Amankwah Mireku, Ishmael Addo have all given their firm commitment to the match and pledged to play as Friends of Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio in the said charity match.

Speaking in an interview, keeper Adjei lauded the initiative saying it is good important to recognize the contributions of the renowned coach who supervised their success in 2000 and 2001.

According to Adjei, he would be out on Friday to support the cause as part of his contribution towards the project which is aimed at honouring the coach, raising funds to support him as well as the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Keeper Adjei pledged to mobilize the rest of his colleagues who are yet to be informed about the game to come on board to support the project.

“We are all aware of the state of health of our dear coach and participating in the game will be one of the greatest contributions to him.”

According to the organizers, the “Friends of Attuquayefio” side will feature both former and current players in likes of Togolese star Emmanuel Adebayor, keeper Sammy Adjei, Emmanuel Osei Kufour, Jacob Nettey, Godwin Osei Bonsu, Bobie Ansah, Charles Akunnor, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Mahatma Otoo, Joe Ansah, Michael Helegbe, Bernard Kumodzi, Samuel Affum, Amankwa Mireku, Ishmael Addo, John Painstil and Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars will parade players like keeper Daniel Agyei, John Boye, Isaac Vorsah, Daniel Opare, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, David Addy, Anthony Annan, Rabiu Mohammed, Kwadjo Asamoah, John Mensah, Samuel Inkoom, Derek Boateng, Jerry Akaminko, Prince Tagoe, keeper Robert Dabuo, Richard Mpong and Emmanuel Baffour

The match, a collaboration between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Primeval Consult, will attract 3.00ghc each at the North and South Stands of the Stadium with the Osu Stand going for 5.00ghc.

According to the organizers, the VIP Lower will go for 7.00 with VIP Upper going for
10.00GHC and the VVIP, 15.00.
