Kwabre West Constituency seat declared vacant

Parliament of Ghana

The Speaker of Parliament, Justice Joyce Bamford Addo, has declared the Kwabre West Constituency seat vacant, following the death of the sitting MP.

The House, at its sitting on Tuesday, held a minute silence in honor of the departed Legislator, Hon. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, who passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital last Friday after a short ailment.

Hon. Owusu-Ansah was a former Ashanti Regional Minister and was the MP for the area for two terms- from 2005 to 2008 and 2009 until he gave up the ghost on Friday dawn.

The Kwabre West Constituency was created in 2004 by the Electoral Commission and has witnessed a prolonged leadership power struggle among the fold of the NPP since its inception.

In the coming days the EC will receive formal notification from the Speaker of Parliament of Hon. Owusu-Ansah’s death in order to prepare for a by-election to elect a replacement for the departed MP.
