Deputy Minister Fights Nyaunu

Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu

THE NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern region, Michael Teye Nyaunu has been exposed over certain alleged unconventional methods he used over the years to win elections in his constituency by his own party member.

According to Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ebenezer Okletey-Teilabi, the sitting MP who is a leading critic of sitting President Mills has indulged in election irregularities over the years that have made him untouchable in the area and the constituency a no-go area for anyone who tries to contest him.

He alleged that the smart and experienced Nyaunu set up non-existing branch executives who hold allegiance to him and subsequently vote for him during primaries and other elections.

The deputy regional minister said this in an interview with The Daily Searchlight newspaper at his office last Wednesday.

This was during an enquiry over a matter that the MP took to a High Court in Koforidua over the disenfranchisement of some 72 delegates perceived to be sympathizers of the sitting MP.

According to the deputy minister who is the current NDC parliamentary candidate for Lower Manya Krobo, the incumbent MP was nothing but a political thief.

“MTN should be ashamed of himself for using this unconventional method to beat a lot of people who wanted to contest the seat with him for all these years. But it appears he is not ashamed but is rather holding his head high,” he added.

The claims made by the MP that some 72 delegates who supposedly were his supporters were disfranchised during the party’s parliamentary primary held in the area early this year were blatant lies and failed tricks used by the latter during elections, he said.

But in a rebuttal, Mr. Nyaunu has described the remarks as untrue saying the NDC candidate in the constituency was only talking from his nose and as he put it knows next to nothing about politics.

He re-stated his decision to go independent in the forthcoming elections and use the polls to show his popularity he told Oman Fm yesterday.

He was not charitable towards Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Local Government Minister on whom he showered unprintable words.
