OLAM Ghana Limited will commission its US$55 million flour milling plant at Kpone today.
The facility, which will be commissioned by President John Evans Atta Mills, will serve as a huge catalyst for the socio-economic development of Ghana.
The plant is expected to produce flour in large quantities to serve both the local and foreign market.
It has eight silos for the storage of wheat, two warehouses, spacious loading grounds, a laboratory and factory and will achieve an annual flour production of 115,000 metric tonnes within three years which will make it the third largest floor mill in the country.
The Head of Marketing at OLAM Ghana Limited, Regina Ntim-Addae was optimistic the wheat milling plant, when fully operational, will generate employment for a good number of local hands, adding that OLAM is committed to skills development of the Ghanaian worker.
In a related development, the company provided wholesome meals and confectionaries to 700 pupils at the Kpone Methodist 2 Basic School.
The donation formed part of the company’s CSR policy and series of events lined up for the opening of the wheat milling facility.
It followed weeks of social campaigns to use the first flour from the plant to improve the lives of many people.
In the past weeks, some 3,000 children across various institutions in Ghana, have benefited from OLAM’s gesture.
Students and teachers of the school expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the management of OLAM, and called on other corporate bodies to emulate their gesture.
The Headmaster of the school, Felix Tegbe said: “I am overwhelmed and can’t express how happy I am. This is a good example, which other companies must learn. It will definitely go a long way to help the children since they will be motivated to take their studies more serious.”
The Assistant Headmistress of the school, Hannah Donkor, who expressed similar sentiments, added that her school’s name has been put on the map by the singular effort of OLAM.
A JHS 3 student of the school, Nathan Twum lauded the efforts of the company and added that the children will do everything possible to justify the confidence in them by OLAM prior to the donation.
